Just kidding. Unfortunately.
Wondering more about me? Here are some things!
My name is Laura, and I'm a Digital Cinema major at DePaul University. The Chicago one. I started this blog as a class thing my senior year, but after I found out about my food sensitivities late in the summer before my first year of college, I decided this needed to be documented.
This is that documentation.
*Law and Order noise*
So, basically my "food story" is that I had really bad stomach problems starting my sophomore year of high school (but I've never been healthy, like stomach problems/lactose intolerance as a kid followed by chronic sinusitis as a preteen, etc.). I've been given diagnoses ranging from Crohn's Disease (for which I did a small, low dose round of chemo, so...yay) to IBS (for which I was given Prozac, later called by my functional doctor treatment for "Prozac Deficiency"), but the most common assessment of my health was that "nothing was wrong."
As of right now, the outlook is good. After biopsies and blood tests and stool tests and you-name-it, I finally went to a Holistic/Functional doctor who ran IgG food sensitivity tests.
Wow were those results surprising.
I currently do not eat...
- Gluten, of any kind
- Dairy, of any kind
- Bananas
- Asparagus
- Lettuce
- String Beans
- Buckwheat
- Oats
- Pecans
- Walnuts
- Bean Sprouts
- Cantaloupe
- Coconut
- Flaxseed
- Filbert
- Millet
- Navy Beans
- Allspice
- Basil
- Cinnamon
- Cumin
- Fennel
- Nutmeg
I'm also supposed to be avoiding sulphites (preservatives, wine, highly prevalent in shrimp).
So, here I am, starting my first year of college. Big lifestyle change. And a blog.
Welcome.
